How to create product variants?

Create variations of your product by combining different options like size or color

Introduction

Variants let you manage the different versions of the same product (size, color, version, etc.) without creating several separate product pages. You first define the variant options, then Qwoty automatically generates all possible combinations.

⚠️ Warning : Before enabling variants, you must have created your variant options (Color, Size, etc.) in the Product options section → Product variant options configuration. See the article “How to configure variant options?” for more details.
✍️ Prerequisites : You must have created the "master" product (parent product) before you can create its variants.

Access

  1. In the left side menu, click Products and pricing
  2. Click Products
  3. Open the product for which you want to create variants
  4. Scroll down to the Variant block

Enable variants

By default, variants are disabled on a product. To enable them:

  1. In the Variant block, click the toggle to the right of the title
  2. The section activates and displays the configuration options

You can also access the variant option management and creation page directly from the Manage variant options link in this section.

💡 Tip : Define your variant options consistently to make catalog management easier (e.g., always use "S, M, L, XL" for sizes rather than different formats depending on the products).

Define variant options for your product

Variant options are the characteristics that differentiate your versions (e.g., Color, Size, Version).

Add an option

  1. Click + Add option
  2. Select an existing option or create a new one
  3. Enter the possible values for this option (e.g., for Color → Blue, Black, Red)
  4. Click Save

Generate variants

Once your options are defined, Qwoty will automatically generate all possible combinations.

  1. Check that all your options and values are entered correctly
  2. Click the Generate variants button
  3. An alert message appears to inform you of the number of variants that will be created
  4. Confirm to generate the variants

Qwoty automatically creates all combined variants. For example, if you defined 2 colors (Blue, Black) and 2 sizes (S, M), Qwoty generates 4 variants: Blue/S, Blue/M, Black/S, Black/M.

⚠️ Warning : The number of generated variants corresponds to multiplying all option values. For example, 3 colors × 4 sizes × 2 versions = 24 variants. Make sure to check your options before confirming generation.

Manage the list of variants

The Variants list section displays all generated variants:

  • Default : Indicates the default variant (badge "Default")
  • Status : Active or Inactive
  • Variant : Combination of options (e.g., Blue/M)
  • SKU : Unique reference of the variant

Set the default variant

The default variant is the one that will be selected automatically when adding the product to a quote.

  1. Click the menu to the right of the desired variant
  2. Select Set as default

Enable or disable a variant

You can disable a variant that is no longer available without deleting it:

  1. Click the menu to the right of the variant
  2. Select Disable or Enable

Export and import variants

  • Click Export to download the list of variants as a file
  • Click Import to import variants from a file

Configure prices by variant

The Variant Price section lets you set different prices for each variant and each pricebook.

The table displays:

  • Variant : Variant combination (e.g., S/Blue)
  • Pricebook : Associated pricebook
  • Type : Pricing type (standard, etc.)
  • Price : Unit price
  • VAT : Applicable VAT rate

Edit a variant price

  1. Click the menu to the right of the row
  2. Select Edit
  3. Enter the price and VAT rate
  4. Save
💡 Tip : You can set different prices depending on the pricebooks. For example, one price for the "Standard" pricebook and another for the "France Agency" pricebook.

Export and import prices

  • Click Export to download variant prices
  • Click Import to update prices in bulk from a file

Save

Once your variants are configured, click Save in the top right to save the product with its variants.
